The purpose for this processing

To create liability for, billing and collection of council tax for the Tendring District and others (e.g. Essex County Council, Police etc).

Legal basis for this processing

Article 6 Lawfulness of processing (Section 1, (c))

Processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which the controller is subject.

What data we collect about you (fields)?

Personal details as required.  These may include:

  • Name of liable parties
  • Address of liable parties
  • Number and status of other adults in the property (to determine eligibility for discounts and exemptions)
  • Email address (optional)
  • Telephone number (optional)
  • Financial details for payment by direct debit

How long do we keep your personal data?

In accordance with the Council’s Corporate Retention Schedule:

Financial data – 6 years plus current.

Other – in accordance with official Retention Guidelines for Local Authorities.

Who do we share it with?

Relevant information is shared with internal departments where applicable. 

We may also share information about you with third parties where permitted or required to do so by law. This may include other local authorities and government departments carrying out their public tasks, such as a Magistrates Court, Essex County Council, Valuation Office Agency, Her Majesty’s Revenues and Customs, Department for Work and Pensions, the Police in carrying out criminal investigations, and data matching via the District and National Fraud Initiatives. We will also share your data with agencies working on our behalf, such as the council's Collection Agents.

Where we get it from?

Individuals themselves (Data Subjects), other adults within the property and Landlords.
