Be prepared for severe weather

As a nation supposedly obsessed with the weather it's surprising that although many of us watch, listen to or read weather forecasts, we don't actually think a lot about how the weather is going to affect us.

To help raise awareness on how we can minimise the negative impact of severe weather conditions on our daily lives, Tendring District Council Emergency Planning Unit has produced a series of leaflets providing advice on what to do in the event of severe weather, from how to prepare to driving in extreme conditions.

Please see severe weather condition leaflets in the useful documents area.

Anyone contacting the Council on 01255 686868, or by emailing eplanning@tendringdc.gov.uk can be sent a leaflet in the post or by writing to Emergency Planning, Town Hall, Station Road, Clacton, Essex CO15 1SE and mark the envelope, Weather Leaflets.

Our water pipes in winter page gives advice about protecting your water pipes and how to deal with frozen or burst pipes.

Flooding

You can use the GOV.UK flooding checker to check:

  • current flood warnings or alerts
  • river, sea, groundwater and rainfall levels
  • flood risk in the next 5 days
  • Power cuts

Fallen trees

If you see a road blocked by fallen trees or branches you can let Essex Highways know on their Report It website.

If a tree is causing an issue with overhead cables, you can report it to UK Power Networks on their power cut website or call 0800 3163105 or simply 105 from a mobile number.
