the historic town of Harwich on the
estuary of the rivers Stour and Orwell
and is an ideal destination for walks by
the seashore in both the summer and
winter months.

offering an idyllic setting for walks
along the seashore.  favourite with
cyclists as the seafront links in with a
traffic free spur of the National cycle
route 51. You can even join the local
sailing club.

Walton has one of the areas best
beaches and is home to the UK’s
second longest pier. Walton has
something to offer all ages from
activities on the beach and pier or walks
along the beautiful Naze cliffs leading to
the National Nature Reserve.

Dog Ban (May to Sept)
Dog bans are in force in designated
areas at Harwich, Dovercourt,
Walton-on-the-Naze,
Frinton-on-Sea, Holland-on-Sea,
Clacton-on-Sea and Brightlingsea.
Dogs are permitted on adjacent
promenades and cliff paths, but must
be on a lead. Dogs are allowed on all
other beaches if kept under
proper control. Beach ban
areas are clearly signed at
the entrances.

children with parents.

The Waverley and Balmoral pleasure
steamers set sail from Clacton. You
can experience trips from a cruise of
the River Orwell, River Thames and
Tower Bridge or an afternoon river
cruise of the River Blackwater or
evening Showboat cruises.
 Community Foot Ferry operates
daily between Brightlingsea and
Point Clear from March to the end
of September. The foot ferry will also
take you to Mersea Island.
Harwich Harbour Foot Ferry operates
linking Harwich, Felixstowe and
Shotley.
