Girlguiding in Tendring

Girlguiding has been present in Tendring for over 100 years, dating all the way back to 1909 when the first Guide unit in the County was created in Clacton-on-Sea. Since then, the organisation has thrived and expanded to offer adventure, fun and friendship to girls in Tendring from the age of five to 18.

Girlguiding Tendring covers the geographic districts of Clacton, Frinton and Harwich, with:

  • Rainbow Units (for girls aged 5-7 years)
  • Brownie Units (for girls aged 7-10 years)
  • Guide Units (for girls aged 10-14 years), and
  • Ranger Units (for girls aged 14-18 years)

You can find out more information about the Units in your area by registering your interest via: https://www.girlguiding.org.uk/information-for-parents/register-your-daughter/

All our Units are run by DBS-checked and trained volunteers who are dedicated to keeping your child safe as they undertake their Girlguiding journey, learning new things and developing skills in the following areas:

  • Be Well (physical and mental health, safety and wellbeing of ourselves and other people, including badges such as Healthy Minds, Sports, First Aid and Meditation)
  • Express Myself (developing our creativity and confidence, getting messy and motivated with badges such as Innovate, Confectionery, Painting and Performing)
  • Have Adventures (all about exploring our communities and discovering the world around us, including camp and survival skills, as well as Nature, Aviation, Space and Backwoods Cooking badges)
  • Know Myself (reflecting on our values, developing teamwork skills and learning about our cultural heritage, including badges such as Local History, Network, My Rights and Animal Lover)
  • Skills for My Future (equipping girls and young women with vital skills they need to become independent decision-makers of the future, including everything from Construction and Languages to Upcycling and Digital Design)
  • Take Action (building on the skills our members need to make a positive difference - to the people they know, their community and the wider world with badges such as Helper, Speaking Out, Craftivism and Volunteering)

Girlguiding is dedicated to creating a better world for girls and young women, empowering them and giving them a safe space to grow, no matter their background or ability. If you share our ethos, you can become a volunteer and help offer opportunities to more young people; simply go to https://www.girlguiding.org.uk/get-involved/become-a-volunteer/ to register your interest.
