Clacton-on-Sea is the largest to n
on the Tendring peninsula also
kno n as the Tendring Hundred,
in Essex and is a traditional seaside
to n ith a modern t ist making
it a bustling but affordable seaside
resort.
It boasts an award winning seafront
and gardens as well as an array of
entertainment including a pleasure
pier, arcades, a golf course, seafront
walks, water sports and an airfield
offering pleasure flights.
Quirky facts:
The name Clacton dates from
c.500 AD when the area was
settled by Saxons. The original
name, Claccingaton, means
‘the village of Clacc’s people’.
The Domesday Book records the
village as Clachintuna.
In the soap opera EastEnders, the
characters of Frank Butcher and
Pat Harris met at Clacton Butlins
in 1958!
The main shopping
area contains many of the more
familiar national chains, independent
stores as well as a variety of eateries
to tantalise your taste buds which
is a common theme throughout
the District. Just outside of town is
Clacton Factory Outlet with a wide
range of individual stores with famous
name brands at discounted prices.
