Sunken Rose Garden, Clacton

During the late 1990's as part of a Heritage Lottery Fund Bid this garden was extensively re-modelled. The raised planted bed that formed the centre of the garden was removed and replaced with a stainless steel pergola for climbing roses.

The banks and the beds of the garden contain a great diversity of rose species and ground cover plants such as lavender which provide colour and interest throughout the year. Many of the rose beds are dedicated to various military associations such as The Burma Star and Dunkirk Veterans.

A ramp allows wheelchair users and the less able bodied access to the garden. Lighting is installed to encourage greater use of the gardens in the evenings and improve views into the garden from the Promenade.
