Accessing our beaches and promenades

Dovercourt

Easier access onto our Dovercourt award beach for disabled, wheelchair users, prams and members of the public is via a slope. There is also access to our award beaches by steps.

Promenade access for disabled and pram users is either through West End Lane (by Dovercourt Bay Leisure Centre) which is to the right of the boating lake and the gate by the lower lighthouses.

You can also access the promenade through Harwich beach.

Frinton-on-Sea

Access onto Frinton-on-Sea’s award beach for disabled, wheelchair users, prams and members of the public is via a slope. There is also access to our award beaches via steps.

For promenade access, there are slopes near:

  • Second Avenue
  • The bottom of Third Avenue (this is opposite Connaught Avenue)
  • By the Leas

Walton-on-the-Naze (Albion Beach)

Easier access onto our Walton-on-the-Naze Albion award beach for disabled, wheelchair users, prams and members of the public is via a slope. There is also access to our award beaches via steps.

You can also access the promenade by flat surfaces via:

  • Walton Pier
  • Pavements along Princes Esplanade
  • Slope at the end of East Terrace
  • Slope via the toilets by Cliff Parade (East Cliff)

Martello Bay, Clacton

Easier access onto Martello Bay award beach for disabled, wheelchair users, prams and members of the public is via a slope.

Access off road via a slope on Selsey Avenue, or by pavement next to Clacton Lifeboat Station. There is also access to our award beaches via steps from the car park in Hastings Road.

Harwich

Easier access onto our Harwich award beach for disabled, wheelchair users, prams and members of the public is via a slope. There is also access to our award beaches via steps.

Brightlingsea

Easier access onto our Brightlingsea award beach for disabled, wheelchair users, prams and members of the public is via a slope, located by the Batemans Café. There is also a ramp by the Wardens Hut in the hard car park (Promenade Way) which is either side of the Lido.

Promenade access for all members of the public is through the Sailing Club. There are steps further along the beach also providing access to the award beaches.

Clacton & Holland

Multiple access points for disabled, wheelchair users, prams and all members of the public onto the promenade:

  • Martello via gate by Lifeboat Station (in Hastings Ave)
  • Via pathway in Martello car park
  • Beside Greensward Café
  • Slope opposite Nelson Road
  • Slope opposite Clacton Hospital
  • Slope opposite Tower Road
  • Slope opposite Penfold Road
  • Pier Gap
  • Slope opposite Anglefield

Access onto our beaches from the Promenade

West Clacton
  • Slope by Greensward Café
  • Wooden ramp by beach huts (close to Palace Breakwater)
  • Slope by kiosk 3 on yellow beach
  • Slopes by Pier Gap

East Clacton and Holland

  • Pier Gap
  • As the sand on the new beaches is level with promenade, this allows for easy access once you get to Beaches Café by train turnaround point.
